Day off?!?!?!

Doug took a day of studying Sunday so we headed to the Santa Fe mountains; Raven's Ridge, Deception peak, Lake Peak , scramble/bushwhack to Nambe Lake and back via the Windsor trail. Me legs can feel the lack of hiking over the past 2 months... It felt sooooo good to be back up there!!!

NM has pretty wildflowers too!!!

And there's the 1000's of Columbines!!!

Ouray

No picture can do this wonderful mountain town justice.... Over 5 mountain passes to get there (all over 12000 feet -I think-), but it is so worth the scary drive...
We didn't do that much hiking -the kids aren't thrilled with a lot of vertical and the only way to hike in Ouray is UP-!!!

Happy 8th Birthday Elisabeth!

Self-made Sangria (non-alcoholic you'd be happy to hear) and out for pizza afterwards...

Just making sure nobody eats MY leftover pizza (would you dare ?!?!?! ;-)!!!)

Ridgeway

A real cowboy-town.... with Indian teepee's....

The lake at Ridgeway, can it be any clearer, more beautiful and inviting???

On a half day rafting trip on the Uncompaghre river... Initially a little reluctant, the girls now want to go again.... in wilder water....

Relaxing, showing off yoga moves to me and the chip monks...

Rocky Mountain wildflowers

Exploring Albuquerque...

Old town ABQ, it has to be visited..... but not for too long on a hot July day (especially not when you're from Belgium and anything over 80 degrees F is considered a heat wave)....

At least there's the option of 'getting high', taking the tramway to Sandia Peak where it was cool and breezy...

And enjoying a drink at the bar (even when you're not yet out of grade school!!)....

Happy July 4th!

Coming from a country with very little national pride, it was interesting for family to spent July 4th here. We made it to the pancake breakfast on the Santa Fe plaza and the kids where fascinated with the traditional Mexican dances....

We did get out of the crowd and hiked the Borrego trail (including a significant amount of trail maintenance -the water is flowing again!!! - whilst the girls build camps ;-)!

By the time fireworks rolled around, the crowd was fast asleep on European time..... ZZZZzzzzzzz.........
